I get a lot of compliments and results from my students with The Banjo Song Book. It's easy to read, the arrangements are solid, the melody really comes out (accents in the tab included) and they are excellent confidence builders. The DVD quality, easy to lick through menus and CD demonstrations at two tempos should be very helpful.
...Your lessons and teaching methods are the best! I've purchased a lot of books and dvd's from other artists, but find your way to be the best..
....your book Banjo Song Book is simply incredible...
Accents inserted for melody notes, easy to read tablature, and more.

The Banjo Songbook is a very comprehensive wire bound book that includes text instruction for each song along with detailed tablature showing the picking and fretting hand used, as well as accent marks inserted for melody notes.
The arrangements of these songs are all rooted in the Earl Scruggs style and accent the melody. They are great for students at a beginning and intermediate level that want to expand their repertoire with some easy to play arrangements of popular five string banjo tunes. They aren't terribly complex but they sound great. There are also tips included for each song to help you learn them easier. Between, the CD and DVD of the songs performed at three speeds and the extra heads up tips and instruction, you will really have an advantage. test

Reviews (15)I just got the song book and was watching the videos. They are much better quality and content than anything I’ve found on YouTube.
I haven't had a chance to play any of the songs yet but looking through the book I'm eager to get started playing all of the songs, I know the songs are favorites and will be fun to play, I don't know of anyone else that offers these songs with CD and DVD. Thanks Ross
...Anyway, having said all of that, your book (already) has made me "get" how you are supposed to play songs on this instrument. It has dawned on me that embellishing the melody is much simpler than I originally thought. For example, I was working on your "Ballad of Jed Clampett," and the melody notes just seemed to fly out of my chord formations and chord-based licks without much effort. It sounds great! As I said, this whole melody approach, as opposed to just improvising and filling measures with licks and rolls, is really fun. The fact that I can play all of those standards and impress the guys in the band and my friends is just an added bonus.
.....Hello Ross,
I thoroughly enjoyed your 'Banjo Songs' instruction book and completed it over the weekend. Its overall simplicity allows me to play many of the tunes including 'Foggy M.B.' at your CD performance tempo. With that under my belt I can now go back and add in some complications (3-2 pull offs after the 2-3 hammer-ons etc.) that would have otherwise stagnated my pace and kept me from focusing on tempo. While most of the 'Songbook' tunes are freely accessible on the net in tabledit form, they lack the necessary straightforwardness needed to leap hurdles facing an intermediate player, namely rhythm and tempo with accuracy. Your book accomplished that for me without frustration and improved my confidence. It was also motivating to watch the performance downloads at your website.
I just ordered the Scruggs Style Instruction book from you and was hoping that someone is around to drop in the mail this afternoon so I can get started on it later in the week.
.......I just wanted to take the time to let you know that your book Banjo Song Book is simply incredible, I’ve been picking for about a year now and can play (slowly) nearly every song in it. Your unique tab system is awesome and much less confusing than some of the other books, which by the way are collecting dust. When I break out with Blackberry Blossom, the room seems to go silent and I feel everybody’s eyes on me! ....I just got your Banjo Song Book today and I love it! I just picked up banjo about four months ago, and after a summer of intense practice, I must admit I'm getting pretty darn good pretty darn fast.
